Judge orders shutdown of Musk’s X in Brazil

A Brazilian judge has ordered the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, to suspend its operations in Brazil for failing to comply with an order to block several accounts under investigation for spreading fake news and hate speech. The company chose to close its office in Brazil instead of adhering to the judge’s order, which Musk criticized as censorship. Additionally, the Brazilian court has frozen the local bank accounts of Starlink, a satellite firm partially owned by Musk. In response, Starlink has requested the court to revoke its decision.
X was still operating normally in Brazil on Friday. However, the platform anticipated that Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes would soon issue an order to shut it down. This anticipation came after the company failed to meet a court-ordered deadline to identify a legal representative in Brazil.
