Bangladeshi worker accused of molesting Malaysian woman

A Bangladeshi worker has been charged with molesting a local woman in Malaysia. Shahidul Islam, a Bangladeshi worker, was charged at Malaysia’s Young Peng Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a woman shopkeeper in Batu Paha, Johor state, in June.
At the same time, the accused Bangladeshi was charged with overstaying in the country.
The accused, Shahidul Islam, 27, testified before Magistrate Suhaila Shafiuddin, after an interpreter presented both charges against him.
According to a report by Harian Metro on September 3, the first complaint was that the Bangladeshi man tried to molest a 39-year-old local woman businesswoman behind a shop in Parit Sulong at 6 pm on June 30. He was charged under Article 354 of the country’s penal code, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison or a fine or caning, or both.
For the second charge, he was charged with overstaying in the country from the day his temporary visit expired on September 26, 2023.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip and the accused was represented by lawyer Mohammad Razak Sharif.
As the accused pleaded not guilty, the court granted bail of RM6,000 for both charges and fixed September 24 as the next hearing date for submission of relevant documents.
