SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) — A massive crowd of protesters will hold a rally over the weekend in Yeouido, western Seoul, to call for President Yoon Suk Yeol to step down over the martial law turmoil, police said.

As a large-scale rally is scheduled to take place in Yeouido on Saturday, where the National Assembly is located, some roads in the district will be cordoned off, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

Yoon declared emergency martial law in an unexpected decision Tuesday night but subsequently lifted it hours later as the opposition-controlled parliament voted to reject it.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), one of the largest umbrella labor unions in the country, will hold a rally in areas near the National Assembly at 1 p.m., followed by a march.

The police plan to deploy over 230 officers to help cars make detours around the route of the march in central Seoul and Yeouido.

“Use public transportation like the subway if possible, but in case you need to bring your car, check the traffic information,” a police official said.
