Farhad Mazhar’s Roadmap: First Constituent Assembly Before Government

Poet and philosopher Farhad Mazhar has given the interim government two roadmaps for the election. Prof. Dr. Sheikh Akram Ali presided over the seminar, which was addressed by Prof. Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman, a Professor at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka, and Nurul Islam.
He said, “There will be two crucial elections in the coming days. The first is the Constituent Assembly elections, where we can shape a new state. The second is the government elections, which will follow the state formation. This roadmap has been presented to you on behalf of the people. Your role in following this roadmap is crucial. If we deviate, we risk grave consequences.”
He devised the roadmaps while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘New Bangladesh: Establishing a Welfare State without Discrimination’ by Professor K Ali Foundation at Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.
Farhad Mazhar said, “A state cannot be formed without the people. It is our moral duty to sustain this interim government. Movements are going on at different levels of state, including the administration. These must be brought under control and reformed at all state levels.”
“Whenever we think of nation-building, we also think of political parties. We need political parties. We can only do this with political parties. But the political parties want to seize power and loot for 15 years. However, that’s not the job of a political party. Political parties must propose constructive ideas to help us build Bangladesh beautifully in the coming days. Unfortunately, they’re not making any proposals.”
Farhad Mazhar stated, “Today, a major upheaval occurred. We shed so much blood. But in the end, we have Sheikh Hasina’s constitution. Is this what we want? How does this constitution still exist? Those selected as advisers are essentially advisers to the president Sheikh Hasina appointed. He was appointed as a fascist. The advisers vowed during the oath-taking that we would preserve the Constitution. However, this constitution is Sheikh Hasina’s constitution. It shouldn’t exist. This constitution should have been discarded.”
