Aman Azmi Describes ‘Aynaghar’ Secret Detention

Former Brigadier General of the Bangladesh Army, Abdullahil Aman Azmi, held a virtual press conference to describe his experience after being detained by plainclothes government security forces. When they arrived at his house, he asked for their identities, but they did not respond. He was mistreated and arrested, and his family was also subjected to harassment. He was blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location. During his detention, he was questioned about his social media activity and was subjected to psychological torture.
Brigadier Azmi also expressed his concerns about the investigation into the killing of 57 army officers during the BDR mutiny, calling for a thorough and responsible inquiry.
Furthermore, he criticized the estimation of the number of martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and proposed a reevaluation of the national anthem of Bangladesh, stating that it should be rewritten to reflect the country’s independence.
Former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi was released on August 6 after being detained on August 22, 2016. Despite his forced discharge from the army by the Awami League government, Jamaat-e-Islami has continued to claim his arrest.
