Mahmudur Rahman lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of the daily Amar Desh, to jail in a case filed over an alleged plot to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order on Sunday. The judge rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail.
Earlier, Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Amar Desh, returned home after spending five and a half years in exile.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Turkey on a Qatar Airlines flight at 9:20 a.m. on Friday. Leaders of the Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Union of Journalists, and Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad received him at the airport.
In addition, thousands of students and people gathered outside the airport to greet him. He came out of the airport and stood on the open roof of the car and greeted the supporters and well-wishers by waving their hands.
“For 16 years, I have fought against the fascist government on a personal level. “My country” with my family. My fight was a battle of intellectualism, a battle of culture.
