Personal information of 110 million Bangladeshi citizens was stolen and sold for Tk 20,000 crore

The personal information of more than 110 million Bangladeshi citizens stored in the Election Commission’s (EC) data center has been stolen. In this case, preliminary information has been found in a transaction of Tk 20,000 crore.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP, said this at a press conference at DMP Media Center on Wednesday.
He said the former director of the data center, Tareq M Barkatullah, was arrested for data theft. In this connection, a case was filed with Kafrul Police Station. There are 19 accused in the case.
He also said that 15 to 20 more people are accused in the case. Initially, it was learned that they were involved in this work in collusion with each other.
