Tabith is running for BFF presidency

Two-time former BFF vice-president Tabith Awal is gearing up to enter the election field. This afternoon, he will share his views with the media at a five-star hotel in Dhaka to position himself as a rival to Tarafdar. Tabith has received approval from his party, BNP’s high command, for this move. In an interview with the Samakal yesterday, the former footballer said he had organized the meeting to announce his candidacy for the Bangladesh Football Federation election.
Tabith previously served as vice president during Kazi Salahuddin’s tenure, having been elected as an independent candidate in the 2012 and 2016 elections. In the last election in 2020, he narrowly lost to Ahmed Mohi for the vice president position. There has been a growing demand for new leadership in BFF, and after Salahuddin decided to withdraw from the election on September 14, Tabith was initially prepared to face the media.
However, the situation changed when BNP’s central sports affairs secretary and former goalkeeper Aminul Haque supported Tarafdar for the position of president. Tabith, who contested the Dhaka North City Corporation election with a nomination from the BNP, took some time to contest the BFF election. During this period, football circles discussed the possibility of a ‘consensus’ panel in the BFF election.
