Ukraine confirms US-made F-16 fighter jet shot down by Russia

Ukraine has confirmed that one of its F-16 fighter jets crashed during a Russian air strike, and the pilot was killed. The crash happened on Monday when Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones.
The F-16s were deployed that morning to intercept a massive missile and drone barrage launched by the Kremlin. More than 200 projectiles were fired at half of Ukraine’s regions. Following the attack, Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk, of northwest Ukraine, confirmed the death of Ukrainian pilot Oleksiy Mes, noting that he was among the first Ukrainian pilots to be trained in the F-16s.
